The Stocka story began in real shops, while working closely with business owners and seeing how daily operations actually run.
After completing his studies in computer programming, Ian started his career at a company that built and deployed a POS system used across Kenya. The work placed him directly inside businesses, observing how owners and attendants managed sales, stock, and customers on a day-to-day basis. It was practical work, not theory. Over time, he developed a strong interest in it because the problems were real and the impact was visible.
When that company eventually closed due to external reasons, it was more than the loss of a job. It meant stepping away from work that had shown him how much better business operations could be when systems are done properly.
In the period that followed, one thing stood out clearly. Many businesses were still operating without reliable records. Sales were often written down loosely or not recorded at all. Stock would run out unexpectedly or remain unused because there was no clear visibility. In many cases, owners relied on memory or trust rather than structured information. The issue was not effort. It was the lack of systems designed for the way these businesses actually operate in Kenya.
Most available tools did not fit well. They were built for different environments, where processes are more rigid and predictable. Kenyan businesses are more fluid. They break bulk, adjust prices, sell in small units, and operate in fast-moving, space-constrained settings.
Ian believed that business owners should not have to depend on guesswork or constant physical presence to understand what is happening in their businesses. A system should give clear, usable insight and allow the business to continue running even when the owner is not there.
In January 2025, he shared this idea with a friend, and they began building a system designed specifically for these realities. By August 2025, they registered Inventaire Technologies Limited in Kenya, and the product they had been building became Stocka.
The name Stocka comes from “stock,” adapted with a local Swahili touch. It reflects what the system is built to handle, but also where it comes from.
Stocka is built around a simple idea: that business owners should have clarity over what they are running. Not just numbers, but usable information that reflects real operations.
At Inventaire, we focus on building systems for businesses that want structure without complexity. We care about functionality, visibility, continuity, and freedom. Stocka is the practical expression of that focus.
